Apart from being the lead negotiator in the current impasse between the Government and the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, Minister of National Development Assad Shoman is also Belize's Chief Foreign Affairs Representative, which makes him the lead negotiator in the Belize-Guatemala diferendum. In that capacity Shoman will lead a delegation comprising Ambassadors Lisa Shoman, Fred Martinez and Former Minister Eamon Courtenay who will travel to Miami Florida.
According to an official release, the meeting comes through an invite from Acting Secretary General of the OAS, Luigi Einaudi, and has no set agenda. It will however enable both Belizean and Guatemalan negotiators to hold informal discussions with a view to finding ways forward in the age-old dispute between the two countries. Presently, the confidence building measures are on a semi-permanent backburner after being rejected by the Berger administration in Guatemala
