30,000 house lots to first time landowners: that was the manifesto promise that the PUP made in 2003 and, just in time for town board elections, the party is moving to fast track that process. On Tuesday, Cabinet approved a programme to convert all existing government leases to freehold title quickly, and that means without requiring the approval of the Minister.
The first phase of the programme will concentrate on municipal house lots and it will be launched in Dangriga on January 23, 2006. So if you have a lease for a house lot, you should expect an invitation from the Ministry of Natural Resources to convert it to a title. Details of who will be invited and when, have not been provided, but with the urgency of an election in 7 weeks, all things should be possible.
