The Colombian Belezaire talks about is Nubia Ramirez. She along with her husband own Ready Call which is an agent for Tracfone Wireless. She gave us a quick tour this evening and told us they haven't and never will terminate any employee for joining a union. She this evening told Keith Swift employees are being terminated because of poor performance not for unionizing.
Keith Swift,
Will you allow your workers to form or join a union?
Nubia Ramirez, Ready Call's Owner
"Well they have the right to do something like that if that is what they want."
Keith Swift,
Eleven workers were terminated today because their names appeared on a union form.
Nubia Ramirez,
"That is not true. We didn't fire anybody today."
Keith Swift,
So the young lady I met downstairs lied to me?
Nubia Ramirez,
"She was an agent or another supervisor that we fired from like the day before yesterday but she didn't come yesterday so she came to pick up her letter today but its not that we fired her today."
Keith Swift,
So why was she fired?
Nubia Ramirez,
"Whenever we fire people, it is because they don't have the performance they should have."
Keith Swift,
Aren't you exploiting and taking advantage of these people who really can't get a job anywhere else or this is their first job?
Nubia Ramirez,
"Well if offering a job, a very good job, and a learning process to one person means taking advantage, we're doing that because that's what we're doing, offering a good possibility to learn and offering a good environment to work. We are trying to give them all the chances to be successful in this business but this business is not for them, there is nothing else we can do."
Keith Swift,
Can I get an assurance from you on national television that these workers can unionize and you won't prevent that by sanctioning them and firing them?
Nubia Ramirez,
"Look, its very difficult to stop six hundred people from doing something. If they want to do something, they can do it. They are coming here to work so I am not controlling what they are doing when they are not at work. So if they want to join a union, they have the right to do that."
