DFC offices countywide were open again today as the union asked about 50 employees to return to work. Union leader Emerson Burke says that it's a goodwill gesture to place the ball in government's court. He stresses that if government does not move quickly to engage the union in negotiations, the DFC workers will call on fellow unions to give notice of impending industrial action. That meeting has been tentatively scheduled for next week. Burke stresses that government must consult on the $26 million in written off loans that it proposes because otherwise it will end up costing taxpayers in the long run.
