Yesterday the Belize Tourism Board promised to send a check for just over $370,000 to the Belize City Council but by the close of business today, it hadn't. When we checked with city Mayor Zenaida Moya late this evening she told us that the BTB hadn't come through with its part of the bargain.
As we've reported, that bargain was that the City Council would back off from any drastic action and the BTB would in turn pay the council more than $800,000 as part of a memorandum of understanding. Of that $800,000, $370,000 was to be paid immediately, arrears for November, December, and January.
And while Mayor Moya waits on the BTB before making her next move, government and the People's United Party have gone on the offensive against Moya. Separate releases from the PUP secretariat and the Prime Minister's office charge that Moya's council is broke because of her mismanagement.
