And while the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition have weighed in, new information obtained by 7NEWS shows that again, there are many secrets still being held close to the executive chest.
7NEWS has received credible information which tells us that if and when the government does take over Universal Health Services, as it plans to do, it will take over as much as $11 million in payables, meaning money Universal owes. Reportedly tucked away within that is the $4 million Universal borrowed pay the DFC debt.
You will recall that with the Prime Minister's approval the DFC debt was written down from a principal of $12 million to $4 million. The interest was another $8 million and that was also written off.
When the principal was written down by 66%, with the loss accruing to taxpayers, the $4 million was paid and the debt to the DFC was given the appearance of being settled. We say "given the appearance" because it was just basically transferred to a Universal payable - knowing that when government takes over Universal, it will still have to re-pay it.
And apart from that deeply dubious $4 million, what else is in the $12 million in payables? Well secrets untold our sources say and government may not know until it gets in there. So that's what the Prime Minister didn't say in his statement.
