And while it may be a logistical problem, notionally the Prime Minister should have no issue with extended public consultations because despite what the SPEAR poll says, he's convinced he continues to have the support of a majority of the population. Here's what he told the press about the SPEAR poll today.

Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
"Obviously you can have polls and you can have polls and we know what happened with the last poll, how that was engineered for the UDP by a UDP. Now I am not going to suggest that SPEAR is in the same bag, 'cause I don't know. But what I will say is that there are so many factors involved in a poll; the timing of the poll of course, when this matter is at the height of its controversy, when the people have only one side of it and all the misrepresentations that have been going on.

And secondly, yes four hundred and odd people spoke: Who are these people? How was it determined who to call? And all that. No, I am not convinced that the majority of the Belizean people are calling on me to call an early election, to call elections now."

As we've reported the SPEAR poll showed that 69% of respondents said that the Prime Minister should call elections now. 52% of the 414 persons polled by telephone said that they had no confidence in the government.
