You may be voting at a different polling station next month. That's because a provisional list of polling stations has been sent out and it shows changes at a number of stations. Some of the wrinkles have to do wit5h re-districting, but it's raised the alarm for the UDP which say that apart from being out of the way, some of the polling station re-assignment may be illegal.
Hon. Dean Barrow,
"From time immemorial, the people in polling area 21 have voted at Saint John's Vianney School. According to the list of polling stations that was presented to us, it is proposed to have the people from the polling area 21 no longer vote at St. John's Vianney, which is within the physical boundaries of the polling area but to have them vote instead on Euphrates Avenue at St. John's Primary School. St. John's Primary School now is the polling station for the people in polling area 12 in the Queen's Square constituency but it is proposed to move them up the street and have them vote instead at the St. Ignatius School.
They are now saying that people in polling area 22 will instead vote at St. John's Vianney but St. John's Vianney is physically in polling area 21 and not in polling area 22. And furthermore I want to tell them that the law, the Representation of the People Act is quite clear. If they proceed in this fashion, they will be acting illegally. So we need to say to the Elections and Boundaries, for example, you can't have people in polling area 21 going to vote in St. John's School which is in polling area 12. It is against the law."
The Chief Elections Officer did not return our calls.
