And while Patrick Rogers is a candidate for the Collet division, he is also a software designer. That's not news but what is news is that Rogers designed database software for the Elections and Boundaries Department. Even more interesting is that recently the department contracted him to service their database of registered electors. Sounds like a conflict of interest but Rogers says if he didn't have to do it, he wouldn't but no one else in Belize can.

Patrick Rogers, VIP Candidate
"I challenge any Belizean to go and offer their service. If they can support it I would gladly walk away from it. It is just that I have a few programs I've written and some systems that I've set up and whenever the clients need me I am called upon to go support them."

Keith Swift,
Don't you think it is a conflict of interest?

Patrick Rogers,
"As I said I am not retained by the department. I am called on to do a quick fix whenever needed and I go in and do that fix and I am out of there. I work under close supervision. I am never alone with the system and I assure you as I've said I put out a challenge - find another Belizean to do it. They have to go out of the country to find the support I'm giving them. I don't see what the concern is with that database. There is checks and balance there, there are audit trails. Anytime the database is accessed, a record is logged of which user accessed it so I don't see, I really don't see a conflict of interest per se especially since we make a point of making sure I signed off before elections."
