The UDP had a Belize District pre-election rally at its headquarters near the Bel-China Bridge last night. And while it’s anyone’s call right now, by the reckoning of most – after a troubled term for the Musa administration, the UDP should be the favorite going into the election – so the party was under pressure to produce a sufficiently buff crowd. But when evening showers threatened - the question was would it rain on the UDP’s rally? Here’s how it looked.
Mayor Zenaida Moya,
“Is the Belize District Ready? Because early in the morning February eight I want to do one thing, and I want me to celebrate in the streets.”
After a fiery opening by Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya – the Belize District pre-election rally proceeded before a huge crowd with speeches from all Belize District candidates - capped off by a main address from party leader Dean Barrow.
Dean Barrow, UDP Leader
“This is not guess and spell, this is not maybe – when you elect the United Democratic Party to form the new government on Thursday February the 7th, Thursday of this week – you will be electing men that will prove worthy of your trust. Ladies and gentlemen let me thank you once again for making it clear to all the world that your UDP will form the next national government of Belize.”
And as Barrow and his Belize District colleagues danced into the night, they must still be haunted by the knowledge they know that who dances first doesn’t always dance last.
The PUP will hold its city pre-election rally on Tuesday night at the Marine Parade area near Memorial Park.
