Municipal elections are 11 months away and it’s already getting heated. This morning a scandal sheet against Mayor Zenaida Moya was circulated to media houses. It alleges serial nepotism, official misconduct and corruption. And while it makes many allegations and offers no proof, the news isn’t what’s on the paper, the news is who’s behind it.

Speaking to us this evening about it, Moya would only say that, quote: “I will not dignify that garbage with a response and we already know who is doing it.” So who is doing it? The Mayor wouldn’t tell us, but she would only say that it’s an attack coming from those who want to run against her – but she refused to discuss whether those mayoral hopefuls are those within her own party or outside of it.

The mood of the council suggests that all is not well in City Hall – as reports suggest to us that once fractious relationships are verging now on open hostility – which means that the months leading up to the next Mayoral convention should be very interesting.
