Remember the walls at the Fort Street Tourism Village? Well, they still haven’t come down – and as we’ve shown you the boardwalk connecting the village to Brown Sugar and Harbor View has been destroyed – so even if the walls were removed, only a world class long jumper would probably be able to get across it. And that’s why Brown Sugar and Harbor View say the tourism village is in contempt of court- and its bosses should be sent to jail for it. That question of contempt went before the Chief Justice this morning. But he decided to go see it for himself and Christian Riverol, the Manager of Brown Sugar told us why they were so pleased with that.

Christian Riverol, Brown Sugar
“While our attorney Mr. Lumor was presenting his arguments, the Chief Justice found it fit that we come down to the village and to our side and to see exactly the destruction that took place. In his wisdom the Chief Justice

made the right decision because he came here, he looked at the destruction and in my view he was very disgusted by it. After we left here we went back and he invited everybody into his chambers and basically a deal was sort of met for the interim whereby if we agreed to, we would give Fort Street Tourism Village ten days to rebuild the boardwalk that they destroyed or they would get the real prospect of going to jail for contempt. So basically that was sort of tabled to us, would we agree to that, and both parties agreed that they would build back the boardwalk within ten days or face the prospect of going to jail for contempt.

We have been victorious over and over again and so I think we just have to continue fighting. I think this is the last straw, they can’t do anything else. If they do anything else they go to jail. It is as clear as that to me.”

Measurements were being made this afternoon, and indications to us are that the boardwalk will be completed within a week, and definitely within the given ten days. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of it. Indications are that the Fort Street Tourism village still intends to press ahead with an appeal which will be heard in June. And if it goes their way, well…it could put us all right back to the start.
