He got booted from Cabinet yesterday, but Orange Walk East’s are representative Marcel Cardona is not going to take it lying down. He today issued a fiery release, saying that he is the victim of a vicious campaign orchestrated by Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega. According to Cardona that came to a head at a special Cabinet meeting on Friday, where Vega called for his removal. Cardona says the Prime Minister promised to be fair in considering Vega’s position, but in the end, quote look down: “chose to opportunely expel me from Cabinet, as a means of finally punishing me for having publicly embarrassed the Honourable Prime Minister and his self-avowed open, transparent, accountable, and corruption-free Government, by publicly exposing the obvious sweetheart deal in relation to the unauthorized and secret Diane Haylock contract with David Gegg.”

That’s a mouthful! And Cardona says it’s just one more manoeuvre by Deputy PM Vega who he claims has publicly vowed to get him out of from Cabinet and eject him from his seat in Orange Walk East. We could not reach Vega for comment. Cardona closes by saying that he remains committed to the people of his division to whom he will re-double his efforts and to the ideals of good governance.

And while that makes it clear that there is very little room for reconciliation, the only thing left to be seen really is whether the UDP’s hierarchy will really send a challenger after Cardona at the next Orange walk East Convention.
