They say time heals all wounds, and while weeks have passed since Mayor Zenaida Moya’s unholy attack on the Prime minister, its still daggers drawn in the UDP when it comes to the subject of Mayor Moya.
And, our information suggests that party is moving apace to have her expelled. The National Party Council met two weeks ago and removed her from that body. And, tonight the news is that the UDP central executive met on the weekend to move along with the disciplinary action against Mayor Moya. But, expulsion isn’t something a party does everyday and the decision by the Central Executive it seems is to go back to the National Party Council to ask that larger body to appoint an Ethics Committee to consider the case against Moya.
That National Party Council meeting is expected this weekend. Thereafter, it is expected that it will go back to the Central Executive which will form a specific charge against Mayor Moya and she will be given time to offer a defence. Her case, as we understand it, will ultimately be decided by the Ethics Committee – which it is expected will have membership of party loyalists – which, right about now, appears unfavourable for Ms. Moya.
But, indications for other quarters are that Mayor Moya won’t just take whatever is handed down to her; suggestions from her camp is that she will resist expulsion.
