And while the mayor is on the out from the UDP, the question is whether Security Minister Carlos Perdomo will be relieved of his portfolio. He's been under sustained public attack for months and whether all the hell he's been getting has been deserved or not, a large section of public opinion seems to have reached a critical mass, saying that Carlos Perdomo has to go. The Prime Minister said he has heard the cries - but can't quite say whether that is the solution. We also asked Perdomo about his future:

Jules Vasquez
"In your June 2nd address will you announce either or both a change in the Minister of National Security and a change in the high command in the police department?"

PM Dean Barrow
"I have no such expectations at this time. But you know I cannot tell a lie. I continue to say that all options are on the table. I must look at especially in that particular context what will give the best fit."

Hon. Carlos Perdomo

"Well, we will have to wait and see because you know in these kinds of things it's always timing. We are not sure if that will happen on the 2nd of June. But as you know there is no secret, the Prime Minister has said from months ago that there would be a re-arrangement or re-shuffle. For us in Cabinet, he told us on the first day that this is a government effort, a UDP effort and wherever we need to tweak or strengthen things it will be done. But up to now I am still manning the ship until that time, or maybe not. So, I'll take it in stride and I am trying my best. It's a difficult situation, it's a big Ministry but whatever occurs, occurs. This is not a personality Ministry; it's an effort by a government to try to improve things. "
