And in relation to the other headache that Mayor Bradley has been recently experiencing, he today gave an update on the CWU dispute about the 26 security workers whose jobs his council intends to make redundant.

He explained that even though there are differences of opinion that still exist, he is confident that the transition for the 20 of the 26 workers will take place smoothly by Friday:

Darrell Bradley - Mayor, Belize City Council

"There is still division. We still have differences of opinion in certain parts of our agreement, and that's why we had, even though we've agreed in principle, we had exchanges of letters to clarify certain points. We got back to them immediately, but we're hoping that we could come to an agreement today, and if not, tomorrow. We want to bring this to a close by tomorrow, and we've assured the union that if we can bring it to a close, each security officer will receive a letter of appointment for the new post, and they could smoothly transition on Friday into that new job. They're already being sized for uniforms and thing like that, so a lot of preparatory work is also going to plan for this transition. But, rightly, the Union is involved in ensuring that they are not prejudiced, and we'll cooperate with that process to the fullest extent possible."

Bradley has maintained that the privatization of the security services will save the council around 300 thousand dollars annual, which can be diverted to more needed projects.
