And while it may seem that the unions are only now rearing their heads against the government, their newfound ardour may be a result of an aggressive PUP led smear campaign against them.

That's what political analyst Bill Lindo told the nation on last night's "Uncut" but he also gave an impromptu history lesson reminding us that the People's United Party has its roots in the very unions that they're currently targeting.

And, Bill also let us in on his belief his party's austerity measures are a recipe for losing their next election.

Bill Lindo - Political Analyst "Austerity has never worked, it's not going to work because people are the problem. You know when Said Musa come and he tell me, he said I'm not going with the IMF prescription, I said so what will you do, he said we will have our home grown, it's worse, why? I said people don't vote for hard time, people vote for better life, now if you will do hard time, it cannot be more than a year, you can't carry it 2, 3 years, that will not work, it has never worked. I read history, I sit down and read to find out why people make mistake."

Jules Vasquez "Sir looking at it from a political perspective, is the PUP in your opinion making an unrecoverable step by going against its roots, they have ads against the unions now, your party, have smear campaigns against the union."

Bill Lindo "I said somebody knock their head."

Jules Vasquez "Has the PUP when you say those ads against the union knowing as you said your party's union roots, is that the product of that type of overweening, arrogance that you feared your party would fall into?"

Bill Lindo "Yes, we are humans Jules and some of us tend of be arrogant, some of us tend to be not arrogant or hide it but we are showing we have power because we have won 2 election, massive margins."

Jules Vasquez "They are a popular party bill, the people confirmed in March after they took a tough 100 days, the people came out and supported the PUP, the PUP legitimately feels and I'm not the one to argue with them, they legitimately feel that they can go toe to toe with the unions in a popularity contest and win. Do you think they can?"

Bill Lindo "I don't think so because the same union vote for you, how you think you win?"
