And today, Chairmans of the Commission Andrew Marshalleck added some sobering perspective to the debate over the continued sale of government assets - and as he chairs a commission looking into past sales.

He rejected one question that asked if the Commission was a charade:

Andrew Marshalleck, SC - Chairman, Commission of Inquiry "I wouldn't say that it's a charade. I understand why he said that. The truth of the matter is that whether as a union of anybody else, if you decide that you want to put an end to corruption, you just don't say it and all of a sudden magically the next day all corruption evaporates. And if that's what Belizean society expects, they themselves have a shock to get. Because that's not what happens. You're not going to elect a new government and all of a sudden all the problems you had the day before elections somehow evaporate and are solved. They're still there."
