But Flowers didn't just stop with Usher he also set his target on Vanessa Briceno, the prime minister's sister. Last week the NTUCB president went on a tirade about Briceno allegedly owing 11.1 million dollars to the GST Department. And while the PM explained, the PSU took note of his comments.
For context we start with the PM's statement about the tax penalties being quote, "ridiculous"
Dean Flowers - First Vice President, PSU "The prime minister said the Belize Tax Services calculate tax arrears, or the manner in which they do that is out of whack. Every single business in Belize is judged, governed, assessed by the general sales tax act and the income tax act. Is it that the prime minister's sister comes from Animal Farm and not from the country of Belize? How is it that the prime minister can say his sister will not and should not pay what she has been assessed and what continues to accrue but every other Belizean business out there must comply. And I am yet to hear from the private sectors to condemn that inequality, that Animal Farm type mentality. I'm yet to hear a statement from the Belize Tax Services to say Mr Prime Minister as Minister of Finance, lawd man. GST is calculated on gross sales, you heard the news saying it's not, come on man, make we read the law and understand our role, or make we stick to what we know rather than we get on the media and speak about GST not being the law is clear, you pay GST on your gross sales, if you're making more than 75,000 or more per year. 4:13 So I want to hear from the private sector, especially from their representative, as to how this special individual is being treat where her arrears and assessment is concerned versus how they are being treated."
