But while the two parties seemed to be in agreement outside the senate, they weren't seeing eye to eye during the meeting. Senator Peyrefitte raised his objection to the enoluments bill, as we showed you earlier in the news. But Senator Eamon Courtenay explained that if the public officers are unwilling to take that 10% bukut, then there's an even greater one waiting for the country.

"The IMF is demanding and proposing, I repeat, retrenchment, tax increase, devaluation. If senators believe that this is a bukkut, then they can choose an IMF disaster. We have chosen, Senator Salas is right, we have chosen the lesser of some evils. 3 evils, we could continue borrow til we go broke, we can go down the IMF road or we can choose this homegrown approach."
