When we left you last night, it was with a powerful blast from UDP Area Rep Shyne Barrow. In a Facebook post, he said basically that at least three of the 5 UDP member of the House - himself included - were planning to unseat Faber as parliamentary leader of the opposition and replace him with Tracy Panton.
His post said, quote, "Patrick Faber does not enjoy the confidence of the majority of Opposition Members of the House. Tracy Panton enjoys the confidence of the majority of Opposition Members of the House. We will convene an emergency meeting of the UDP National Party Council before we proceed to write the Governor General."
Big moves, but premature, because two hours later Tracy Panton put up her now post saying, basically that Shyne Barrow is on his own. In an almost instant rebuttal, Her post said, quote, "I Tracy Panton wish to make it clear that I do not associate myself with the statement of the Hon Shyne Barrow.regarding the lack of confidence in the UDP Party Leader, the Hon Patrick Faber, as the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives. This is a time for the United Democratic Party to unite, heal and rebuild."
So, in street terms, "Shyne look bad!" But did he, really? 7News has seen a WhatsApp message from Tracey Panton to Shyne Barrow and Hugo Patt saying she is requesting a meeting responding to quote "a lot of clamour for the Party Leader to be removed as Leader of the opposition in the House. He will not step aside of his own volition " end quote. She them asks, "How will this work exactly? What is the party prepared to do to go all the way What happened beyond sending a letter to the GG?? There has to be a plan." End quote.
That's a clear, clear sign that these three UDP reps were working together to unseat Faber in the House - and that message was reportedly sent last week Thursday, June third,
But, by yesterday, June 8th., it seems many things had changed - including Panton's position. We'll see where it goes next.
