At the close of our interview, the PSU President also took aim at the Prime Minister for suggesting that his government may have to hire former Auditor General Dorothy Bradley on a 1-year contract, while they try to find a permanent replacement. Here's that comment:
Dean Flowers - President, Public Service Union
"The Public Service Union was taken by surprise by the Prime Minister's comments yesterday, to the media, that the government is unable, or has been unable, to identify a suitable candidate for the post of auditor general. This administration, since the retirement of the former Auditor General, is yet to put out a vacancy call. This administration is yet to carry out any exercise, outside of their political searching for an auditor general. For the Prime Minister to say that they have been unable to identify a more competent and capable auditor general, is shameful, very shameful. Belize is full of competency. Belize is full of talent, and within the wider Belizean society, there are competent and qualified, certified auditors and accountants, who can fill the post of the auditor general. We do not support the proposed one-year contract that the Prime Minister alluded to yesterday. And we call on the Minister of Public Service and the Ministry of Finance to put out a vacancy call for the post of the auditor general."
