Last night you heard City Councillor with responsibility for Cemeteries Michael Novelo speak candidly about a bid from Cattouse Trucking to expand the cemetery. That trucking company is owned by councillor Kaya Cattouse's father - and Concillor Novelo boldly said he would never smear his name by supporting a contract awarded to the family member of a councillor.
But, 7News has obtained documents which show that a company which is directly linked to councillor Edmund Kwan did get the contact for works to expand this same cemetery some months ago.
In October of 2021, Gel-Quarry Limited was paid $45,373 to expand the eternal Garden cemetery with a bulldozer and fill material.
We are told this contract did not go to the Council Caucus. We reached out to councilor Novelo for comment but got no response at news time.
