14 days ago - the Belize City Council met in caucus and decided to give councilor Micah Goodin two weeks to resign as mayor - or be removed from that post. That fortnight expired today and he hasn't resigned, nor has he been removed.

Instead, the council met last night and decided to give him another week. A press release issued this afternoon says that the council has, quoter, "deliberated further on the matter…(and) at his request... the council has granted him an extension up until Wednesday June 15th" end quote.

Now, it kind of makes no sense because the resolution stands - and either by resignation or remove he will have to go. So, the idea seems to be to give Goodin one more week to consider the option of making an orderly exit rather than face the political humiliation of being stripped.

Councilors tell us he has until Monday to turn in that resignation and after that the wheels will start moving remove him.
