Last night we told you about the joint statement from two former Prime Ministers, and two Foreign Ministers supporting the current government's to break diplomatic ties with Israel.
Senior statesmen, Said Musa, Dean Barrow, Assad Shoman and Godfrey Smith all signed the statement. Between them, they have a combined almost 20 terms in elected office at the highest level. But, UDP leader Shyne Barrow is not impressed - even with his own father. He today fired off a 7 page letter scolding the statesmen, saying he is utterly dismayed at their statement.
He then says, "as the Prime Minister in waiting, I have great respect and admiration for the contributions all of you have made to the development of Belize...This is why I am…perplexed and alarmed at the message of extremism and selective outrage you are sending…."
After a tour of global conflicts the younger Barrow turns to Belize City and writes, quote, ""Is it ok for the Government to dismiss the genocidal gang warfare in impoverished parts of Belize City and beyond yet insert itself in a religious conflict that has been happening for thousands of years?...the Government is interfering in an extreme and biased fashion in selective foreign affairs while its home affairs are in crisis" end quote.
He also scolds them for their language, saying, quote, "Referring to Israel as "colonial settlers" and "occupiers" inflames this crisis rather than end(s) it because terrorist like Hamas will use your distortion of facts and one-sided support of the GOB's bias actions against Israel as justification for their continued terrorism against Israel, which will only undermine the progress of the establishment of the Palestinian State."
