And while Minister Musa says the law is oppressive, the National Evangelical Association of Belize is calling him out tonight. In a release issued an hour ago, they say, quote, "It is a blatant conflict of interest when the Minister responsible for Policing and reducing crime is actively promoting the very product (marijuana) which is primarily responsible for gangs and turf wars."
The release continues to say, quote, "Huge, cash based industry in the form of drugs is the most attractive feature for cartels, illicit activity, and money laundering….We have been informed that any move to legalize marijuana will threaten to undermine all of that credibility gained, and correspondent banking relationships will be cut off by "de-risking". We'll be having live reports from Caye Caulker all day tomorrow to let you know how it's going.
