A day before tomorrow's House Meeting, the Senate met today to do some housekeeping.
The OSH Bill was supposed to be on today's agenda. But there seems to be no rush since it was deferred after the UDP senator expressed that they still have unfinished business with the Ministry of Labor. Here's a snippet of the session.
Patrick Faber, UDP Senator
"The difficulty we have is that there was to be a second face to face meeting for lack of a better way to put it with the technical people and to be quite frank with you we find it unacceptable even the excuse that was given that they are unable to meet with us for whatever reason. That baffled me completely. And while the response that you gave me just now provides a way forward, it denies the members of this Senate that opportunity even before the debate continues that was actually kind of promised for us to engage with the technical folks. I get the impression, I don't want to be critical, that these technical people may be in over their heads. It was very clear to me and that is frightening for the passage of this bill, it's very frightening when it is that the CEO and the labor commissioner are unable to answer and we ask them to come back and the reason we ask them to come back is not because we were done and we needed their responses, in fact time had fleeted us, we spent almost 3 hours and the issue was that they were unable to give us direct responses so we adjourn in order to give them the opportunity to prepare themselves to come back and sit with us to flesh out some of these issues and I'm disappointed that if the way forward is what you've suggested that in fact the promise of us getting the chance to speak with the technical people back and forth in the chambers would have been neglected."
Tomorrow, we'll have coverage of the house meeting.
