Salvador Alas was the Financial Officer during that period when those Taurus rifles were purchased, but 7News has confirmed that he was not at work in February of 2025 when this text message was sent. On July 1st, we aired a story suggesting Alas, as Financial Officer, had some connection to or knowledge of this message.
But he was not at the Ministry at that time, so, to be clear, he could not be linked to that message.
And while it has been widely reported that Alas was recently on administrative leave, he was not. He was on vacation leave and has returned to his current post at the Ministry of Sustainable Development.
