If you can pull a three thousand pound Toyota Hilux, pick up a 500-pound tire and then lift a thousand pound of rocks, then there is a place for you in the first muscle mania and strong man competition. It's a for charity event that will be held on Sunday at Old Belize on the Western Highway. The first part of the competition will be all about muscle with bodybuilders strutting their stuff. The best part comes after in the strong man competition. Organizer Francis Woods says you don't have to be ripped, you just need great strength and mammoth endurance.
Francis Wood, Organizer
"The strong man contest which will have a series of events when they'll have to pull a Toyota vehicle about a 100 feet, they have to flip a huge tire supplied by Caribbean Tires wholesale, they have to fill a bucket of an excavator from Gentrac with about a thousand pounds of rock, they have to pick up compactors and walk with and then he has to erect about ten drums full of Mobil oil, from Gentrac, and then he has to stack about five tires onto a post. All of this will be timed and what is very important is that yes a lot of it depends on strength but it also takes technique too. So it really should be an exciting day."
Keith Swift,
This is a charity event right? Tell us about that.
Francis Woods,
"Definitely, the Salvation Army. All the gate money will be going towards the Salvation Army and everybody knows the Salvation Army is a good group."
The competition begins at noon at Old Belize on the Western Highway. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children. You can also still enter either the strong man or the muscle mania division. There is a registration fee. The winners will take home cash prizes of up to $500.
