And the road this weekend probably won’t lead to Placencia for the children in Majestic Alley. That is why this year a group of concerned mothers have organized a sports day for Easter Monday on the basketball court. Julia Young and Shirley Mejia are leading the effort and they say it is all about offering a positive alternative.

Julia Young, Organizer
“There will be a lot of different activities, there will be bicycle race, lime and spoon, musical chairs, jump rope, all the activities that you can think of. Basketball, baseball, football.”

Shirley Mejia, Organizer
“Bicycle race, rapping contest, train rides, and we will also have a positive word from Erwin X and other different artists. So we are just doing this for the kids in Pink’s Alley.”

Julia Young,
“We just basically want to come out for the kids because you all know this is the Easter weekend and not every parent has money to take their kids to the cayes or wherever little trips they are having so with so many kids in the neighbourhood we decided that will be the day that we will try and entertain the kids.”

The mother says they’ve received generous donations from the business community. The fun starts at 10 am on the basketball court on Easter Monday. The sports day will be held in memory of Kevin Francis – who his family maintains was killed by police last year.
