Whenever the Chiquibul Maya Mountains make the news, it always to bring awareness to the pressure that the national park remains under as the Friends for Conservation and Development tries to combat the illicit activities that take place there. But, the FCD is trying to highlight the beauty that still exists there.
They've partnered with a company called American Adventure Sport to launch the Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge. It's a race over the span of 3 full days where the athletes will be canoeing, biking, hiking, orienteering, spelunking and navigating across the vast areas of the Chiquibul-Maya Mountains.
It starts at 12:01 on Thursday morning, and it will be open for 4 days where 17 teams from all over the world will compete. Belize will make representation with 3 teams from the BDF and the FCD Rangers.
