The Belize Premier Football League may be celebrating a new champion, but the thrill of victory doesn't last long, because in a few weeks they'll be looking for a new champ. That's the decision we told you about last night, to move on immediately to a new semi pro football season. On Saturday night before the game, the league bosses explained the rationale:..
Maito Perdomo, President – Premier League of Belize

"A lot of games had to be played mid-week this tournament. We have to finish by the 18th of May to meet the FIFA calendar. This tournament should have been finish a month ago, so we are looking to start at the end of this month."
Al Westby, Vice President – Premier League of Belize

"We will take one week rest after this championship game and we go right into it."
Maito Perdomo, President – Premier League of Belize
"But we have to catch up. If we don't catch up to meet the FIFA calendar we are going to be in a lot of trouble. Out of the 2 leagues we have to pick a champion to go to the league championship for UNCAF."

"How do you see you team going into the next tournament which will start pretty soon. The president said within a week or two we are on the other tournament."
Hon. John Saldivar, Owner - Belmopan Bandits

"Hopefully we can keep the team together first of all and then after that hopefully we can stay in tip top shape. I am really looking forward to the championships league. That has always been our aim to play against the best teams in Central America and Latin America and the Caribbean and North America - that's our aim."
Our football insider Freddy Cantiliano also asked about that disgraceful semifinal game in Benque Viejo 17 days ago where there was mud on the ground, and chaos above it. They said it is being investigated at both the technical and disciplinary levels...
Al Westby, Vice President – Premier League of Belize
"I'll take this opportunity to publicly apologize for that situation. We are presently looking into that situation right now. The disciplinary committee have been given their task to do what is necessary. This is not about friendship, this is about discipline and especially to the officials and any opposing member of the team that is traveling to that area. We have to defend them and we have to look at them very carefully. We have to make sure that this does not happen again."

"When you look at the field from a distance, it looks like there is no water there, so what we will be doing is that we will be scouting it more now because they had an option to bring that game here and they didn't do it because they wanted all their fans and you cant blame them. I mean they have a lot of good passionate fans in Benque and I have to give them that. But we have to instill the discipline in it."
Al Westby, Vice President – Premier League of Belize
"I could ensure the fans and the owners that something like this wouldn't happen again because we as the league will make sure that we have our input in along with the match commissioner to put in that input that we help make that decision because honestly it was awful."
