And while he did not make a minister's statement today, we did ask the Minister of Sports about a now public controversy in his Ministry. As we've been reporting this week, former Director of the Sports Council Ian Jones is threatening to sue the government. His attorney OJ Elrington has written to the government, saying his contract is valid through to 2022 and can only be terminated by mutual agreement - with both sides agreeing.
Well it was cancelled unilaterally back in November after the elections and now Jones's attorney is demanding "$186,115.00 as payment for salary and gratuity for the full remaining two years of his contract, and damages for breach of his constitutional rights."
Today in Belmopan, we asked the Minister of Sports Kevin Bernard abut it - and it's clear he was in no mood to compromise:
Jones's attorney has told us that he has a recording of the current chairman telling him that he's being fired for political reasons. Jones adds that the bottom line is his contract which they breached. He adds that all the multi purpose facilities, including Victor galvez were handed over to the ministry of health and nemo to be utilized as quarantine facilities. Any damages or wear and tear that has happened, happened during that time.
