And while the the royal sword was conferring honors in Cayo - the royal baton was arriving in Belize.
The Queen's Baton Relay is a race around the world held before the Commonwealth Games every four years. The baton carries a message from the queen, and she entrusts it to the first baton-bearer. From there, it travels to all the countries in the commonwealth. Usually, the baton would be brought personally by a team of four, but due to COVID it was sent through the royal mail. The Post Office received it on Friday, and today was the kick-off of the race in downtown Belize City. The deputy mayor spoke about the importance of this race at the Battlefield Park.
Tomorrow the race will be at the Blue Hole, and then at Xunantunich before the baton is sent to Guyana.
