If you are wondering why your lights went out last night, well it was a countrywide blackout owing to bad weather in Mexico.

BEL says there was a total system collapse after power from Mexico tripped due to severe thunderstorms in that area. BEL adds that it took 15 minutes for the their gas turbine unit at Mile 8 to kick in along with power from diesel generators and the Mollejon Hydro to restore power first to critical areas such as the hospital. Power was restored to most customers within an hour.

BEL says its Mexican counterparts has since repaired the fault and they are receiving their regular supply of 25 megawatts.
