This morning before eight a light rain fell on the Western Highway between miles 20 and 35 and it caused havoc on the roadway. We encountered at least three accidents between miles 29 and 31 – known as a particularly treacherous stretch of road. One of them this rolled SUV appeared traumatic – but according to police no one was seriously hurt in any of the accidents.

Still, it bears reporting because the lighter and less apparent the shower the more dangerous that stretch of road becomes – because a thin and extremely slippery film of grime smothers the road’s surface.
