And all this is happening at a time of year which has been especially wet, rainy and stormy. And of course we can't forget that in 2022 on November second, we got hit by Hurricane Lisa.

Young says that October into November has been very wet since 2020:

Shanea Young, Senior Climatologist
"Typically this time of year, we have what we call the Central American gyre. Basically, it's a very broad area of low pressure that covers the central and southern parts of Central America. So that normally forms every year around this time. And it also interacts with the monsoon trough that normally hangs out around Panama area. And sometimes that troughs move up closer to our area and forms a big, broad area of low pressure which has been supporting, like I said, the moist and unstable conditions."

Jules Vasquez:
"So all this rain is not uncharacteristic."

Shanea Young, Senior Climatologist
"For this time of year, no. And like you rightly mentioned last year, even far as far back as 2020. Almost every year around end of October, early November, we do get a lot of rains where they turn into a tropical system like Eta and Iota or they just be continuous rains like now because of just low pressure systems around the area."

"They don't necessarily have to become a tropical depression or a tropical storm."
