From the logwood days, the Belize River Valley forms the lifeline of Belize's history but you wouldn't know that from the way the road has been maintained. From time before time it has been unkempt, but finally the Belize River Valley is getting some attention.

In February CISCO and ANCA/RODLA construction companies began upgrading of 11.5 miles of the road. The $6.64 million project will see the river valley road move from a dirt road to a feeder road.

The upgrading is being done mainly to improve conditions for the transportation of agricultural produce in and out of the river valley area. The project should impact the villages of Burrell Boom, Bermudian Landing, and Scotland Half-Moon, Double Head Cabbage, Saint Paul's Bank, and Rancho Dolores. Work should be completed in August.
