The Bowen group of companies including Belize Brewing and Bowen and Bowen this week went on a public relations offensive in the local newspapers where full page spreads have the companies defending themselves, and fighting back against the Unions and the Chamber of Commerce. In the attack on the Chamber, Bowen and Bowen is saying that after not being a member of the BCCI since the 1990's it rejoined the organization in December of last year, but is canceling its membership again because the Chamber has joined with the Unions in their call for a higher excise tax.

This afternoon the Chamber fired off a response in which it points at the Senate's voting over the tax issue. It directly indicts Senator Barry Bowen, the Managing Director of the Bowen Group of Companies for having voted in favor of new taxes as opposed to the Business Senator who voted against it. It continues by listing its efforts at preventing government from implementing taxes.
