Tonight at its annual general meeting, which started at 5:30, BTL's Board is expected to approve financials that write off the $6.2 million that the company lost when finance head Gaspar Aguilar is alleged to have given that money to Dion Zabenah and never got back the U.S. dollars. We note that the board decided that media would not be allowed to tape or attend the meeting. But Chairman of the Board Keith Arnold will get some resistance from the Communication Workers Union which has written to him today strongly criticizing the letter that he sent to each BTL employee urging them to join the trust. The union claims that is a violation of labor laws, ILO Conventions and their collective bargaining agreement.

In the letter, the union also makes it clear that it remains interested in 20% of the shares that was earmarked for its members and is prepared to obtain this on what it calls a fair and transparent basis. In that regard, they are asking for the trust deed from Sunshine Holdings which must be delivered to the union by next week Tuesday.
