"We can't complain," that was the overwhelming sentiment from businesses today as they began counting sales from the Christmas shopping. We spoke to a sampling of businesses from across the city: A&R store, Courts Belize Limited, and Mirage to find out if Christmas business was brisk or broke.

Tomasita Urbina, A&R Store
"Well I can't complain, it went very well. It was better than last year."

Keith Slater, Courts Belize
"We had a good Christmas. I would say that Christmas came in a sort of late spur, not the usual sort of pick up from September and onwards but I think we anticipated that and I think we are quite pleased with this season. We had a lot of cash purchases, people coming in and buying with cash, a lot of people coming in late to spend for small gift items, when I say small I mean $99, that sort of price range. In the last minute, right up to Christmas eve, we were busy so that's an indication of what people were doing."

Ajay Hotchandani, Mirage Store
"It was a good response. It wasn't anything spectacular because at the same time the concept is a very new but at the same time it wasn't disappointing. It is the feedback more than anything we were looking for in the season."

A&R Store is now offering fifty percent off on all its toys and Christmas decorations. Courts will announce their after Christmas promotion shortly.
