Gas prices at the pump are going up at midnight tonight. Premium fuel will go up by 25 cents, regular by 18 cents, diesel by 14 cents and kerosene by 16 cents. It's the second increase in three weeks and it will take the price of a gallon of premium fuel to $10.71, regular to $10.60, and diesel to $7.64 in the city. As we understand it, government is continuing its practice of simply passing on the increases in acquisition prices which continue to go up because of the high price per barrel of oil. Today Keith Swift went to the pump to break the bad news to those buying gas.

Driver #1: That is what I understand, that the gas is going up again tonight and the way I feel about it is maybe that's the way it got to be.

Driver #2: That shouldn't be because if we are exporting so many barrels oil, the prices should drop.
KS: You seem speechless.
Driver #2: That's right.

KS: Do you know that gas is going up tonight?
Driver #3: I did not know.
KS: What type of gas did you buy today?
Driver #3: P_remium.
KS: That will go up by shilling tonight.
Driver #4: Wow,

that's a major increase. I think they really should do something about the increase in price. I got a scooter and I don't know about the other people. If Belize found gas, it's a long process...I would think until the government finally figures out what to do with the gas, our situation will get better. It's always good to be hopefully but I don't know what will happen.

KS: Do you know gas is going up tomorrow?
Driver #4: I don't know, I don't know yet.
KS:
What type of gas are you buying right now?
Driver #5: Regular.
KS: Well that is going up by 18 cents.
Driver #6: 18 cents? Its high, its very high. I don't know exactly what to think but the point is they have to take care of this country because if we have oil in Belize that should make the conditions better for us.

Driver #5: It is terrible, it's rough on us. We shouldn't be paying so much for gas, we just discovered oil in the country and so we should get gas at a low price.

Again, the changes go into effect at midnight tonight.
