It's a straight cash bailout in response to extreme political pressure but while that's the reality, the spin is that the Belize Tourism Board has agreed to assist the Belize City Council in executing 5 tourism-related projects. These include a beautification competition, antelope pond eco park, redesign of downtown and Albert streets, the rehabilitation of streets and parks in the city. The projects are not to exceed $1 million and they will run up to March of next year. But it's not that simple; the money is not tied to the cruise ship head tax and is subject to conditions which include a memorandum on understanding to be signed by the BTB and CITCO, and that the BTB will dictate the areas of priority to be addressed.
