Belize Natural Energy says government is the one who's been behind the idea of selling its 10% participation in the Spanish Lookout oil field. A release from BNE today says that, "the proposal made by BNE and CHX Capital to the GOB.....was prompted by and follows on the Government's objective as expressed to BNE and CHX, that Belizeans from all walks of life should have the opportunity to participate in the petroleum industry."
It's a repudiation of the PUP government's political position which was that it had seen a proposals to sell the 10% for $33 million, but that was it. The position had also made it seem that it was BNE behind the proposal, but now BNE says it was government doing the prompting.
Whatever the case, it's supposedly a dead deal, because an article in The Belize Times last week said government will not sell its 10% interest.
