Since our story two nights ago about the sofa sets that were stuffed with diapers, we continue to get calls from city residents who’ve ripped open their sofas and found them stuffed with diapers. Last night we showed you Yvette Bradley’s three piece sofa set which she bought from SP Home Depot late last year. That is around the same time when Merlene Sabal bought her sofa set from the same store. After hearing about our story, she went home cut open her sofa set. Yesterday she told us what she found.
Merlene Sabal, Found Diapers in Her Sofas
“I went to work and one of my co-workers informed me about the news last night. So I went home this afternoon and I hauled open one of my small chairs and found a big pampers like Depends in the chair with some other small ones.”
Keith Swift,
Were they clean?
Merlene Sabal,
“Well I don’t know because it was well soggy.”
Keith Swift,
When did you buy your furniture from here?
Merlene Sabal,
“In December. The young lady in there told me that I’ve had it for a whole year and the chair doesn’t have any warranty on it but my chair is still new, nothing is wrong with it. All I want them to do is refund back my money or a next chair...well I don’t want a next chair because a next chair will have the pampers same way so I want them refund my money because I work hard for my money.”
Keith Swift,
The price you paid for sofa at SP Home Depot is cheaper than most stores, so do you think maybe that’s why it was a bit cheaper?
Merlene Sabal,
“Well if I knew it was cheaper for that reason I wouldn’t have bought anyway because on the longer run we are the ones who will lose if we don’t get back our money and they are pushing ‘round and ‘round.”
Sabal called us this evening and told us that when she went to the store this morning, they told her to check with their lawyer Lionel Welch. So far she says she has been unable to talk to him. We also tried to reach Mr. Welch this evening but were unable to. Yesterday he wrote us saying that the owner of the store only recently found out about it and is investigating. In his letter, Mr. Welch says that it poses no health risks to the owners.
