A group called the Landowners Association emerged a few weeks ago. Their complaint is that the law which entitles government to ownership of the petroleum beneath your property is unconstitutional. Presently, landowners, only get a small royalty for oil which comes from underneath their land. Well, that’s one thing, but the other is that the landowners in Spanish Lookout who do have oil beneath their private property have not even been getting paid that minimum royalty.

A government press release reports that yesterday the first landowner’s royalty payment was made by government. The Spanish Lookout Mennonite community received $433,017.02 as their portion of 5% of the government take as prescribed in the Petroleum Act. The remaining portion will be paid to the land owners of the Duck Run II Village once they have produced their land documents.
