And the Kendall Bridge also stops rice from being distributed from the Toledo District which contributes to the current scarcity. And with the ongoing rice crisis, we aren’t sure just how many families will be enjoying their favorite Sunday meal of rice and beans but today the Belize Marketing Board did manage to get an additional one hundred and fifty sacks into its warehouse. But it was all gone by early afternoon.

According to Managing Director Roque Mai, a second shipment was expected late this evening but because their offices are closed on weekends buyers will not have access to the supply until Monday morning. When asked if he still believes the rice situation will be stabilized by next week, Mai said that while he cannot confirm what measures will be taken to resolve the scarcity, he is confident that things will be normalized.

On Thursday Mai told 7NEWS that if the situation is not stabilized, they may have to import and that is one option we understand is being seriously considered but Mai would not confirm.
