She may have been wondering what glad tidings the New Year would bring and it took only eight days for thirty seven year old Amalia Flores to receive the news. At first the mother of Orange Walk Town said she couldn’t believe that she had won Wednesday’s night lotto jackpot of $95.000. When we caught up with her at the offices of Tropical Gaming Company, she told 7NEWS that she is still in shock.

“I was just waking up and finished from breakfast and tending to the children so they could go to school and then I asked the little man to tell me what number played in the LOTTO last night. He said I don’t have it right now on me but he said he would go and get it and I told him what number played, he said I know E played and I said I think I have a free ticket there. Anyway I told him to go and get the number and he went and got it at his house and he came back and he bring the numbers. So I told him to go to the LOTTO agent where he buys and go and see what played and he came back with the same five numbers. I told him to go another place to check it and he did and he came back and all played. I still didn’t believe and I sent him to another one and that’s when I said – oh we are rich. I was excited like I am right now and you know that’s how I feel.”

“I don’t know. This must be, like I said, these are my numbers that I always buy. I always buy this one number, for a long time I have been buying this one number but I was playing a little card with my sister in law at the house and then the little man sent and asked me if I would be buying LOTTO and I said yes. So I gave him the $5 and I told him to go and buy and he went and buy and he didn’t take my ticket. But when he came back and he showed me, I told him but you buy the same numbers that I always buy so I said it was luck.”

And what a way to start off the New Year. You’re the mother of four children and you’re taking care of three so you definitely are a caring individual so how do you plan to spend this money?
Amalia Flores,
“Well like I said I’ve been longing to buy a little house and put some of it for education for them and the rest we try to manage to take care of them.”
