He was busted with only 2.6 grams of marijuana but 26 year old Jermaine Nicholas will serve serious jail time for it. His trouble started on Wednesday when police searched him and found what amounts to a stick of weed. He was taken to Magistrate’s Court this morning where he was charged and pled guilty to drug trafficking.
Magistrate Sharon Frazer accepted the plea but didn’t fine Nicholas. She instead sentenced him to 5 months in prison because he has 5 previous convictions for drug possession. And that’s where he ran into trouble because it turns out he pleaded guilty to drug possession in August of 2003 and was fined one thousand dollars which he didn’t pay. And in 2007 – he was charged and pleaded guilty again to drug possession but neglected to pay the $300 fine.
So taking all that into consideration – Magistrate Frazer ruled that if he didn’t pay it then – there is no indication he will pay it now. So in addition to the 6 months for today’s conviction – she sentenced him to an additional 13 months for unpaid fines for the two previous convictions.
