This afternoon 75 residents from the Collet division received Venezuelan housing grants. They each received purchase orders for home repair equipment and supplies of up to $3,000. Unlike other divisions, Area Representative Patrick Faber says that there will be no grants for new homes – only for home repairs. He handed out the 75 envelopes this afternoon in front of his antelope street office to his constituents which included bruk-dong legend Wilfred Peters. So why does Mr. Peters need a housing grant? He told us.

Wilfred Peters, Receiving Grant
“Man I have to fix the verandah, the floor, and a whole lot of thing, the ceiling, and all of that. I have tried to keep the best I could without government help.”

Keith Swift,
“But Mr. Peters you’re a legend, you shouldn’t have to be getting a housing grant?”

Wilfred Peters,
“Well that is true but guess what, all I have is big name and small pocket. That is the part of it and so I need it.”

Hon. Patrick Faber, Collet Area Rep.
“This is the second distribution that we’re doing. The first was for about 50 people. Today we distributed for another 75 families and we have another 150 or so in the pipeline so all of these people are receiving up to $3,000 in materials to repair their homes.”

Keith Swift,
“So no one is receiving a check?”

Hon. Patrick Faber,
“Not receiving monies, it is actually orders to the construction companies or hardware stores so that they can get the kind of materials that they have put in their estimates so that they can go and do the housing repairs.”

This is the second batch of housing grants for Collet. 50 were distributed previously and at least another 100 are awaiting approval from the Housing Department.
